Kenner mayor's race...

The addition of Ed Muniz to the fray is interesting. The three primary opponents to incumbent Capitano are Muniz, Police Chief Nick Congemi, and former City Councilman Nick Baroni. Muniz, Congemi, and Baroni are usually regarded as allies, if not friends. I never thought that Muniz would want to be mayor badly enough to put up with a full-blown campaign. Perhaps he's just in the race to further dilute Capitano's north Kenner base, thereby ensuring that he is eliminated from the runoff. If that's the case, Muniz is doing the city a huge favor.

Of course, it might be an unnecessary strategy. Stupid is as stupid does, and the US Attorney's office wants to put Capitano in front of a grand jury. Perhaps Capitano's self-destructed and we just don't know about it yet.
