Ed Rendell (D) is shutting down the PA state gubmint for a day, to illustrate how far apart his office and the Republicans in the state legislature are on the state's budget. One must be careful when exercising this sort of brinksmanship; the Big Dog was able to come out victorius, mainly because Newt the Gingrich was a much less likeable figure than WJC.

But, according to the NPR piece, Rendell is shutting down the state's DMV offices. Careful, Governor, if there's one state agency you don't want to fuck with, it's DMV. There's nothing that makes the average citizen get out the torches and pitchforks more than more complications with driver's licenses.
