They're everywhere!

So, I flew this morning from Helsinki, Finland, to Copenhagen, Denmark. I drove out to the hotel, a Quality Hotel in Vedbaek, Denmark, a suburb of Copenhagen that's not far from the Hitachi Data Systems office. It's nice, right along the coast. My first thought was it's like Destin in the winter, but it's really more like Route 1 up in Maine than the FL Gulf Coast.

I took a wicked early flight from Helsinki, mainly because I can't stand SAS Airlines and didn't want to give them any more $$$ than they deserve. This meant I ended up at the hotel around 10am, pretty early as far as check-in times go. What the heck, I figured I could at least get some coffee and use the hotel wi-fi in the lobby. I go up to the desk, and a very pretty gal smiles and greets me. I say, "I know it's early, so I'm not sure if I can check in yet, but I'd like to at least do some computer work in the lobby."

She replies, "not in that shirt, you can't." I had my Arsenal FC hoodie on at the time.

OK, that took me aback, I'm in Denmark, fercryinoutloud. Usually when I'm outside the UK, my Arsenal kit or hoodie is a great way to let people outside the US know I'm not your average American blustering his way through Europe, firmly believing that no sport other than the

National Football League matters and the winners of the Super Bowl are in some way "world champions." Wearing a futbol kit in a Mexican restaurant (not "On the Border" mind you, but real Mexican food) implies that you know the difference between Chivas and PUMAS and Club America, for example.

So, it's always fun to find good-natured EPL trash-talk in Scandinavia. I figured this gal for a Barcelona or Internazionale fan. I smiled the smile I usually do when I encounter fans of other English Premier League teams, and I ask her, OK, who's your side since you don like my Arsenal kit?

She says, I'm a Liverpool Supporter.

Great good goddess, you just can't get away from Scouser supporters. :-)
